Partial Diallel Crosses
نویسنده
چکیده
A diallel cross is a set of all possible matings between several genotypes, which may be individuals, clones, homozygous lines, etc. Such crosses are used to estimate general and specific combining abilities of lines and crosses respectively. For ‘n’ inbreed lines, the possible F1’s are n(n–1)/2, which are to be tested in a suitably replicated randomized design. With facilities available for testing a limited number of crosses, a diallel cross therefore will be possible only when n is relatively small. However, if only a small number of lines are included, the estimate of variances of the general and specific combining abilities among the whole population of potentially available lines are subject to large sampling errors and many potentially high yielding lines may be left completely untested. It is therefore necessary to have a large number of inbreed lines but raise only a sample of all possible crosses among them. Such a diallel cross is known as partial diallel cross (PDC). A series of designs for PDC based on different association schemes can be constructed. PDC based on Latin Square type (Li), Group-Divisible (GD) and triangular (T) association schemes with two associate classes, Factorial Design (FD), and Extended Triangular Design (ETD) both with three associate classes and Multi-Triangular Design (MTD) with four associate classes have been discussed.

Robustness of Diallel Cross Designs Against the Loss of Any Number of Observations ( Crosses ) in a Block
The robustness of universal optimal binary balanced block (BBB) designs for diallel crosses has been investigated for the loss of any t (~1) observations (crosses) in a single block as per connectedness and A-efficiency criteria. It is observed that all the BBB designs for diallel crosses with the minimum eigenvalue strictly greater than 2 are robust as per connectedness criterion. Further A-ef...
متن کاملDiallel Analysis Using Sas
A set of crosses produced by involving 'n' lines in all possible combinations is designated as diallel cross and the analysis of such crosses is known as diallel analysis. Such an analysis provides information on (i) the nature and amount of genetic parameters and (ii) general and specific combining ability of parents and their crosses, respectively. The two main approaches being followed for d...
متن کاملUse of Nested Designs in Diallel Cross Experiments
The term diallel is a Greek word and implies all possible crosses among a collection of male and female animals. Hayman (1954a, 1954b) defined diallel cross as the set of all possible crosses between several genotypes, which may be individuals, clones, homozygous lines, etc. Diallel cross is most balanced and systematic experiment to examine continuous variation. The genetic information related...
متن کاملOptimal Designs for Best Linear Unbiased Prediction in Diallel Crosses
Most of the available results on optimal block designs for diallel crosses are based on standard linear model assumptions where the general combining ability effects are taken as fixed. In many practical situations, this assumption may not be tenable since often one studies only a sample of inbred lines from a possibly large (hypothetical) population. Recently Ghosh and Das (2003) proposed a ra...
متن کاملPartial diallel analysis of agronomic characters in rice (Oryza sativa L.)
Rice (Oryza sativa L.) breeding seeking to combine high productivity and cold tolerance for the temperate Latin America region is an important challenge. We estimated some useful parameters which can be used to investigate the genetic control of agronomic characters in crosses combining cold tolerance and productivity. A partial diallel design was used in crosses between six tropical indica ric...
